Entomology, Gloria the Praying Mantis

The face of insects is quite interesting and the study of insects is entomology. I decided to start a series of researching and looking at insect faces then painting portraits of them. In my opinion, some of them are more interesting than others.

Did you know while mating, the female Praying Mantis eats the head of the male? It is true. Scientists aren’t sure why, but think it has to do with the protein, the male head provides. Weird Science, I say.

My first is Gloria, the Praying Mantis. I named her Gloria because she just looked like a Gloria.

Thank you. It is a 4″x6″ canvas. Like a bug museum size. Haha. Yes, it was done with Oil paint. I am really thinking about doing a huge scale of these. 4’x6′ would be fun. πŸ™‚
